Thorn (thinking): He’s about Leif’s size. I could probably carry him if I need to.

Thorn: Moving will help get the blood flow going again. Let’s see if you can lean on me and hobble.

Kale: S-sure.

Kale (thinking): Stop it, Kale! He’s taken. And much too good for you. And also, taken.

Thorn: And where do you think you’re going, young lady? You can help.

WiB: Uhhh . . . it kinda seemed like you were having a moment. Didn’t want to interrupt.

Thorn: Maybe you should update your secret-agent files to mention that I have a boyfriend.

Meanwhile:

Leif (thinking): Weird . . . even though there’s still no news, I just felt a warm fuzzy feeling run down my spine.

A boyfriend who is being used to spy on you Thorn, don’t leave out the important stuff

That thought process removes all agency from Leif.

Leif is not just some robot that reports everything directly to his manager. He has his own wants and needs. Manager Lundolf himself explained to the spymaster that Leif’s type ” Experience severe Emotional strain if an order would harm someone else. Especially someone they’re… close to.”

Leif wanted the shock so he knew his restraining bolt still worked… But setting off the shock wasn’t enough to keep him from trying. In the Religion AU, he violated his oaths for Thorn. In the “Turn Left” AU where Thorn chose Magic over Swordsmanship, Thorn disables the Bolt at Summerfest. Again and again, Leif chooses Thorn.

In my opinion, Leif is head-over-heels enough with Thorn that he would absolutely go against Sønheim for Thorn… and is VERY GRATEFUL that he hasn’t had to. Yet.

Oh I like this analysis.

I do think that Leif and Thorn are very much attracted to each other. I think their relationship is a really interesting one. I don’t think Leif’s quite at the point where he’d choose Thorn over his country though. He’s still oh so very brainwashed, even as he engages in his small rebellions.

And no, Leif isn’t a robot.

Yeah. This. I’m sure which ever way to choose he’d be conflicted and is glad he doesn’t have to make that choice.

Oh no! OH NO! I think I now have a OT3! OH NO!!!!!

Poor Kale.

I keep running into unrelated kale (not Kale) references that make me think of this sequence of pages! One was a mini-rant about getting too much kale in CSA boxes (“No more kale, please”) and another was a paragraph in a comment on a different blog that started out, “Maybe ship the excess kale . . .” (made sense in context). ;-). Everything’s kale/Kale today!

Also, I don’t ship Kale+Thorn, but I so want Good Things for Kale. Psniff. Poor (if not entirely trustworthy, methinks) guy.
