Kale: Um. Hi. Sorry to bother. I’m K-Kale. Thorn’s friend — he asked me to help. You were going to meet me at the party?

Tansy: Oh, stars, the party.

It’s a Facetbook event. It has our address. Did we double-check the privacy settings?

Kale: So, uh, I can leave —

— but I made a recording of Thorn confronting your, uh, mother-in-law so we could get in, and he said you’d want the documentation?

Tansy: You. You are now my favorite person in this house that I didn’t make.

oh poor Hawthorn 🙁

Yeah, I can understand wanting to NOPE out of that kind of situation. Although I’ve never been in this exact situation I can remember how stressful changes to my routine were as a child, especially after hearing people talking about me and/or my family in a negative manner.

Hmm…
I suspect you may have some points. To be fair, favourite person points probably have a relatively short half-life, and I doubt Kale will be able to keep ahead with Larch’s constant renewal of fresh points…

And given there’s inconsistencies in the colour of the input field titles (I didn’t spot the the “Comment” title and the titles for the check boxes were also white last time) I suspect it’s something to do with the browser that I’m using (Firefox on iOS)

Sorry Kale, you now have a new friend.
Wait, not a bad thing. Yay, new friend!

(Poor Hawthorn. Kid needs a consensual hug.)

I’m gonna go with “Letting Hawthorn get back into his normal after-school routine” is the best course of action. The grandparents were trying to take control from him and enforce ‘neurotypical’ behaviours without a care for how distressed that might make Hawthorn. And let’s not forget the possible PRELUDE TO KIDNAPPING.

Now, a quick “how are you feeling” might not be amiss, but you don’t want to pull him away from what he wants to be doing.

Uh, Tansy? You didn’t make your husband, and he’s right behind you…

(also, the titles for the Name, Email, and Website fields below are in white regardless of the site theme, making them invisible in all but the Northern Lights theme)

We don’t know Tansy’s grading rubric, here. [Collected documentation], [actively assisted my son avoid the Gruesome Twosome], [announced self awkwardly] and [Vouched for by my brother] may give him just enough points to win out on the hourly ratings compared to Larch’s [years of loving marriage], [devoted father] and [was trying to handle this without waking me].

or, y’know, Tansy’s just being slightly hyperbolic.

As for the Name, Email, and Website lines, They’re black text on white background for me in Blue Castle and Rose Garden, and white text on sea green background in Northern Lights.

Hmm…

And the text colour seems to have been fixed

That’s kind of the point. If she said “I like you better than my husband right now,” it would imply that Larch did something wrong, which isn’t the case. The case is that Kale has done something Very Right, and she’s showing her appreciation. She won’t rank him over her kids, but of the people in the house who aren’t her kids, he’s her favorite In This Moment.

Larch may not have done something wrong himself, but ‘favorite’ is about emotions which aren’t necessarily rational, and he’s been tainted with ‘has horrible parents’ which is feeling particularly strong right now.

I’m sure as soon as the parents are dealt with, the order will probably switch to something like Thorn, Larch, then Kale. But after a little longer, it’ll settle down at Larch, Thorn, Kale. Exactly how things are ordered at any point will probably depend on how things go and who is most pivotal in getting the situation resolved.

I just noticed that the voice break happened exactly on his name. Woof. I’m not going to project my personal experiences on him to try to explain that, *but I so could without trying too hard lol*. I’m just gonna say aww look at this boy, I love him.
