Elisa (thinking): The miners are okay. They must be waiting in a refuge right now.
They’ll have food, air, medicine —
They have to be safe.
Back in the refuge.
Annie: Aaaargh . . . !
. . . yes, I have the two of swords. Got any knights?
Arnulf: Go fish.

…Oddest sense of deja vu just now.
Gem (pawn, because gems power everything), miner (castle, because apparently they are very important), knight (the horsey knight dudes, cause duh), mage (bishop), president (either king or queen, depends on whether the president is seen as the most important piece or the most powerful), spirit (either the king or the queen depending on which piece the president is, because magic is real so spirits would be considered pretty high up, I think).
How long has Ceannis had presidents? If it was once a monarchy, I’d imagine there’s some kind of monarch piece.
Or maybe:
gems = pawns
three types of spirits for rooks, knights, and bishops
mage = queen
monarch = king
That makes more sense.
Swords, Cups, Knights, and Roses, huh?
Something, something, “Crack the World’s shell.”?
Wait, knight is a suit? I was expecting it to be a rank. Is there a Knave of Knights?
Knight is a rank, yeah. The goal in Go Fish is to get two, in any suit, so you can discard them.
