As of this update, the campaign to print Dorothy And Her Princess In Oz is live!
It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, everyone here is friends of Dorothy, the continuity is terrible from one story to the next but if Baum didn’t care about it than we won’t either. Like with my webcomic campaigns, these are short stories that have been published online already — but this is your big chance to get them (a) in print (b) with all-new bonus content. (I have drawn so much new art for this. Come and get it.)
Now:
Juniper: Hah, yeah, surprise! I’m leveling up.
So, Pascentia — do you want to be the second-in-command of my team?
Pascentia: I accept!
Juniper: I’ll keep you busy.
Pascentia: I look forward to it!
Juniper: Also, you’ll be our only knight left with covert-ops clearance, and I’m sure I’ll be asking you to use it.
Pascentia: Oh, gladly.

They’re going to be unstoppable (:
Oooooh. I have been wondering this whole scene, “what happened to Violet being the obvious choice for Juniper’s second?” – which Thorn discussed with Juniper all the way back in… Watching Over Me, page 14 (https://leifandthorn.com/comic/watching-over-me-1429/). But I guess this does make sense, from the security clearance angle. Personally, I’d still favour Violet – I’ve never been entirely sure to what extent Pascentia is able to distinguish between the extremes she demands of herself, and reasonable demands that she can expect of others if she’s in a position of authority. I hope she knows the difference… and I hope she comes to recognise that more reasonable and compassionate standards apply to her too.
I guess I never had any of the characters say this part out loud, but…one big concern is, now that Violet is dating Kallie, it would be problematic to make her Atarangi’s boss!
Oh, yes that’s a good point too of course! Heh, more major factors have shifted even than I remembered… Though I confess I’m still concerned that Pascentia is a bit too early in her process of healing to be able to reliably distinguish between high and unrelenting standards… but I have complete trust in your storytelling! Very curious where the story (well, stories) will go from here. ✨
Even back before Atarangi joined the team, Violet’s close friendship with Rowan might have been tricky if she was his boss, but before Pascentia was introduced (in Watching Over Me 15 – how long have you been planning this???), there was no obvious alternative knight to promote.
We’ve seen Rowan trying to hold other people to his own standards, but I think Pascentia’s unrelenting standards are just for herself, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem for her as a leader.
