Leachtric: So what would it take to implement this kind of voting-based government in . . . hypothetically . . . a country the size of Ceannis?

Winberie: Funny you should ask . . .

I have a basic framework on these very simple charts!

Leachtric: If, say, the King wanted to put that in place . . . would he have the funds?

Brod: Ten years ago, I would’ve said “maybe.”

Leachtric: What changed?

Winberie: The King has . . . other financial priorities.

Artemisia: And on that note . . . pack your bags, we’re being called up.

Well I guess for their wars they don’t have to worry about dealing with CIF.

For the uninitiated what does CIF stand for?

Consolidate Issue Facility, it’s where you’re issued your packs, your flak, your kevlar, all the fun stuff that costs hundreds of dollars to replace because of government contracting negotiations.

I’m not going to argue that the stuff is priced reasonably, but a lot of that stuff is more rugged than the civilian version by a significant margin. Getting stuff that’s more rugged costs more, unless you’re getting it surplus – and even then it might. Much of the time you get things surplus, they have the same sorts of issues as anything else you buy at what is essentially an outlet store. That said, surplus may still be quite the bargain over getting something of similar durability that wasn’t bought and then discarded by the government.
