Front stairs.
Kale (thinking): This leads to the balcony level where I saw Thorn. Why do I keep running into him, anyway? This makes four times in two months . . .
. . . at wildly popular public events and in the hallway of our shared building. Answered my own question.
Nobody’s coming down. That’s not a good sign. At least it doesn’t smell like a fire . . .
Kale: You don’t have to come with me, Niamh.
Niamh (thinking): Sure I do. You’re trying to keep your backstory private, and I help keep you from having flashbacks.

Are all the soulbonded animals able to see straight through the fourth wall?
I think so. Family Dinner 6/14 has the author’s note: “Tiernan can see the fourth wall. It’s a thing.”
Has me wondering, can soulbound humans understand their animal’s thoughts, or just their feelings?
Just feelings! I wouldn’t be able to get away with the fourth-wall-breaking jokes if the human characters understood the actual words.
YOU! ARE! A! MORON!
Aaand Kale next, thanks 5/55. Niamh’s close up is cute!
Kale, I’m sorry, but he’s the main character! I’m afraid you’ll probably see a great deal more of him by the time all is said and done.
Thorn is main character, Kale isn’t. He still can avoid him … by not appearing in the comic.
