Swords: Smallsword

Smallswords are a rare type of heartsword, light and one-handed with a narrow thrusting blade, most effective for dueling and looking ceremonial.

Wielders are said to care a lot about showiness and appearances, but they may not hold up well under pressure, including the stresses of serious combat.

They're attested to in historical records, but have not been seen in the modern era. The decline is usually attributed to “smallswords don't make it through the stricter modern heartsword-training programs.”
